All About Small Groups
In a church the size of Good News, small groups play a critical role. It is through small groups that we hope to help people connect with others in order to experience authentic Christian community, as well as spiritual growth. As we join together with others we are able to more effectively serve each other, our church, and our world.
Although we know that God can use Sunday morning worship to draw you closer to Himself, we challenge you to join a small group so that you can grow even deeper in your relationship with Him while at the same time building relationships with others who share your same beliefs.
Here at Good News Church it is our goal that each small group…
These short-term groups are designed to give people the opportunity to try out a small group experience. They typically last 6-8 sessions and focus on specific topics. Groups have the option to stay together at the end of the scheduled sessions if they choose.
Study Groups
Our Study Groups have a primary purpose of studying biblically based topical issues or specific books of the Bible. Overall groups may be larger than 12 but will have a format that includes breaking down into smaller groups. Groups meet throughout the week on different days and at different times.
Discovery Groups
Discovery Groups are intended to help participants grow in their understanding of how God made them and how they can best serve Him. Groups meet for six to eight sessions and are offered multiple times throughout the year.
Affinity Groups
Affinity Groups are groups that are formed around a common interest. Group members may be sharing a common life stage or may share a hobby or ministry passion. Groups such as our 20s/30s Group, our Gardening Group, Crossriders (a group for those who enjoy motorcycle riding) and Run for God are all Affinity Groups we have here at Good News. Affinity Groups are usually grass-root groups that begin when someone expresses a desire to form a group with others who share a specific interest with them.
Emerging Journey Groups
Our Emerging Journey groups meet weekly September through April. Participants make an 8-month commitment to an in-depth process of spiritual formation and adult discipleship learning. Participants are asked to commit to 4-6 hours of outside study and a consistent mentoring relationship throughout the process as well. Applications for the Emerging Journey are due mid-August for groups beginning the following September.
